The Snow Queen
In 2009 to celebrate An Grianán Theatre’s 10th
anniversary the theatre co- produced an exciting and beautifully crafted
version of The Snow Queen with Fidget Feet , this was a huge success and
enjoyed by many. The Snow Queen also performed at Civic Theatre in Tallaght in
January 2010. Again in January 2011, with funding from Arts Council touring grant The
Snow Queen toured to 2 new venues The
Black Box , Galway and GB Shaw Theatre in Carlow.
The Snow Queen brings together local and international talents using aerial circus, dance, music, theatre and special effects. The Blizzard Circus brings you into a world of adventure and delights. A magic mirror is smashed into a thousand pieces, and a young boy called Kay is kidnapped by the Snow Queen. Who will save him before his heart is frozen forever?
Original music by Jym Daly from Loop Guru. Costumes and set design by Paul Shriek who has worked in fashion and theatre for almost 30 years. Gavin Marshal (RSC) is the director, and will co-write this spectacular show alongside Fidget Feet.
So it is this time again and the xmas shows are upons. I see the Millennium have Aladdin, the Olympia has Robin Hood, The Helix Chnderella, The Town Hall Mother Goose and Hawk’s Well has Sleeping Beauty. There is comfort in the sameness of the season and maybe just maybe a touch of blandness. But not so for Theatre goers in Letterkenny An Grianan have teamed up with Fidegt feet to put on a spectacular new adaptation of Snow Queen, reinterpreting the traditional tale by Hans Christian Anderson. Having been to most of the theatre above and many other cities along the glode it was refreshing to see such an innovative show on my doorstep. Moreover it was equally impressive when you realise that the leading lady Chantal Mc Cormick is from Ballybofey. For those of you that are familiar with An Grianan Thaetre I would say go along see the theatre used as you have never see so before. The show is full of aerial acrobatics, fantastic ski dance scenes, brillant set , great music and wonderful costumes. Their athleticism was breathtaken and this is only a Christmas show well done. There is lots of time to laugh out loud, moments also to leave your heart in your mouth ,but most of all you will come away feeling that this was a chritmas show with a difference.
